Plan 9

Just received the Rifftrax version of Plan 9 from Outer Space. It’s basically the original movie with comments from the Mystery Science Theater 3000 guys. These guys make this Ed Wood movie even more hilarious.  I played it on the computer with VLC Media free player. I tried out the “snapshot” feature of VLC for the first time and was impressed with the results. More pictures from the movie are here.

Ethel Goes On

Ethel, in foreground, at cooking class. In an attempt to carry on after her dreams of eloping with her beau, Alfred are dashed, Ethel tries to move on by losing herself in dance and cooking. “Where could Alfred have gone,” lamented Ethel? For awhile, Ethel was diligent with her studies at The Old Palace Girls School Academy. But soon cooking, sewing, and dance at the Academy were not enough for Ethel’s busy mind…

Opened Up Big Daddy!

Big DaddyWell, I finally got around to unpacking the Big Daddy figure from the game Bioshock. He looks pretty cool! Click here for some closeup shots. I didn’t think he was going to stand up at first. It just took a little leg adjustment. Would like to find a Little Sister figure if I could find one to scale.

I played through the first Bioshock game several times and highly recommend it. Still need to load the second game, Bioshock 2.

Let’s jump into it…

The JumpWelcome to The Barbecue Pit. Here, you can enjoy just hanging out at The Pit and reading any post you find interesting. Feel free to comment if you like, or just enjoy the pictures. I will try to find interesting images for most of the posts here. That brings me to a question… Okay, why are these people jumping? While Googling around for “jumping” for some images to use, to my surprise, I came across  a new trend used by professional photographers – The Jump. Now, its been awhile since I was a little griller, but I remember the first high speed camera that a family member bought. You could freeze the dog in mid-jump, a car going down the street, or just about anything else. It was fun to see what you could capture. Here’s the type of Jump photos I remember…

My sister Ethel learns that she and her beau, Alfred, are going to elope.

Dad knocks down the ladder while Mom catches Ethel. No elopin' today.

Some of the early photographers caught interesting jumps as you can see here. I’ll have to come back to Ethel’s fate in another post. Its not pretty.Gabby Hayes
After awhile, however, the snapshots just slipped back to the “hold still and say cheese” mode like this one of the old cowboy, Gabby.  With The Jump back in style now, its used not just for wedding shots, but for all kinds of events – reunions, anniversaries, what ever you can think of. Go figure..? But I digress. I want to welcome everyone to The Pit. Grab up a skewer for some kabobs or marshmallows and we can grill up some ideas.
